Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cells showing a rod-coccus life cycle. The cocci are 0.4–0.5 µm in
diameter while the rods are 0.4-0.6 x 0.9-1.5 µm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on nutrient agar are cream to light grey. Also grows well on ISP 2, ISP 3, ISP
4, Czapek’s agar, and potato-glucose agar media. No diffusible pigment is produced.
Grows at 10-45 ºC; optimum growth temperature is 28-30 ºC. Grows in 0-7% (w/v)
NaCl media. Grows at pH 5-9; optimum at pH 7. Aerobic.
Isolated from marine sediments sample in Chorao Island India.

Positive results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, esterase C4, esterase lipase C8, indole production, leucine
arylamidase, nitrate reduction, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, valine arylamidase, acid production (API 50 CH) from L-arabinose,
D-fructose, D-galactose,glycerol, inositol, D-lactose, D-maltose, D-mannose, L-rhamnose, D-ribose, D-trehalose, D-xylose, and
methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside.
Can utilize as sole carbon source mannitol, rhamnose, D-glucose, D-ribose, L-fucose, sucrose, maltose, mannose, L-arabinose,
propionate, malonate, citrate, gluconate, DL-lactate, malate, phenylacetate, 2-ketogluconate and 5-ketogluconate.
Negative results for acetoin production, casein hydrolysis, cystine arylamidase, esculin hydrolysis, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and
beta-galactosidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, gelatin hydrolysis, H2S
production, lipase C14, alpha-mannosidase, starch hydrolysis, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, and urea hydrolysis.
No utilization of N-acetylglucosamine, erythritol, D-sorbitol, L-xylose, D-adonitol, L-sorbose, dulcitol, D-mannitol,
methyl-alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoside, amygdaline, arbutin, D-cellobiose, D-melibiose, salicin,
D-saccharose, inulin,
D-melezitose, D-raffinose, amidon, glycogen, xylitol, gentiobiose, D-turanose, D-tagatose, D- and L-fucose, D- and L-arabitol,
gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate.
