Phylum Actinomycetota, Class Actinomycetes, Order Micrococcales, Family Micrococcaceae, Genus Specibacter, Specibacter
cremeus Lee and Schumann 2019, type species of the genus.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive short rods, 0.4-0.6 x 0.6-1.5 µm, not showing a rod-coccus growth
cycle. Non-spore-forming. Non-motile.
Colonies are opaque, circular, convex and cream in colour. Grows at temperature
4-30 ºC (optimally at 30 ºC, no growth at 35 ºC), pH 5-8 (optimally at pH 7.0) and in
0-6% NaCl (optimally at 0% NaCl). Aerobic.
Isolated from soil sampled at a natural cave in Jeju, Republic of Korea.

Description is based mostly on API CORYNE, API 20NE and API ZYM kits.
Positive results for acid phosphatase, catalase, DNase, esterase (C4), esculin hydrolysis, esterase lipase (C8), beta-galactosidase,
alpha- and beta-glucosidase, leucine arylamidase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, nitrate reduction, alpha-mannosidase ,
hypoxanthine hydrolysis, DL-tyrosine hydrolysis, urease and xanthine hydrolysis.
Can assimilate N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, maltose, malate and phenylacetate.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, casein hydrolysis, cystine arylamidase, alpha-galactosidase,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, gelatin hydrolysis, indole production, lipase (C14), oxidase, pyrazinamidase, starch hydrolysis,
trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, valine arylamidase, acid production from glucose.
No assimilation of adipate, D-arabinose, caprate, citrate, gluconate, D-glucose, D-mannitol and D-mannose.
Variable results for alpha-fucosidase and beta-glucuronidase.
