Gram-positive coccoid cells. Non-motile.
Colonies are yellow, circular (1.0-1.5 mm in diameter), convex and opaque with entire
margins. Optimal growth occurs after 2 days of incubation on tryptone soya broth at
37 ºC (range 16-55 ºC). Grows in pH 6.0-8.0 (optimum 7.5), at 0.5-3% NaCl (min.
0.5% w/v) and can tolerate up to 6% NaCl. Strictly aerobic.
Isolated from a forest soil sample from the Western Ghats near Munnar, India.
Sensitive to erythromycin (15 µg), streptomycin (10 µg), nalidixic acid (30 µg), ciproflaxacin (5 µg), amikacin (30 µg), tetracycline (30 µg
gentamycin (120 µg), vancomycin (30 µg), penicillin (10µg), ampicillin (10 µg) and chloramphenicol (30 µg). Resistant to kanamycin
(30 µg).

Positive results for acid phosphatase, citrate utilization, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), gelatin hydrolysis, H2S production,
leucine arylamidase, lipase, nitrate reduction, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, oxidase, trypsin, urease, acid production from
arabinose, mannitol (weak), and melibiose.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, catalase, casein hydrolysis, cellulose hydrolysis, cystine arylamidase, alpha-chymotrypsin,
beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, indole production,
lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, methyl red test, starch hydrolysis, Tween 80 hydrolysis, valine arylamidase, Voges-Proskauer test,
acid production from galactose, glucose, lactose, maltose, mannose, trehalose, and xylose.
