Synonym: Riemerella anatipestifer-like.
Gram-negative, nonsporulating rods, 0.2-0.5 x 1-2.5 μm, occuring singly, in pairs, or in
short chains. Nonmotile.
Colonies are smooth, greyish-white to beige (Riemerella anatipestifer strains are
nonpigmented). Good growth when incubated aerobically at 37 ºC and
microaerobically at 24, 37 and 42 ºC on Columbia blood agar. No anaerobic growth.
No growth on litmus lactose agar (variable features for R. anatipestifer strains). No
growth on MacConkey agar. Variable haemolysis.
Isolated from the airsac, lung, palatine cleft, trachea and brain of pigeons.
Involved in respiratory infections, in pigeons, similar to those associated with Reimerella anatipestifer.

Positive results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, chymotrypsin, catalase, CAMP test, esterase lipase C8, gelatin hydrolysis,
alpha-galactosidase, alpha-glucosidase, leucine arylamidase, lipase, oxidase, valine arylamidase, Voges-Proskauer test, acid
production from dextrin, D-glucose, maltose, and D-mannose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, beta-galactosidase, nitrate reduction, indole production, acid production from trehalose.
Not using malonate as a carbon source. Not assimilated in the API 20NE system: D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol,
N-acetylglucosamine, maltose, D-gluconate, caprate, adipate, L-malate, citrate or phenyl acetate.
Variable results for cystine arylamidase, esculin hydrolysis, esterase C4, beta-glucosidase, trypsin, chymotrypsin, urease, acid
production from D-fructose and L-sorbose.
