Actinobacillus, Actinobacillus anseriformium Bisgaard and Christensen 2012.
Synonym: Bisgaard taxon 26.
Gram-negative, small, coccoid or pleomorphic rods. Non-motile at 22 and 37 ºC.
After 24 h aerobic incubation at 37 ºC, colonies are 0.5-1.0 mm, increasing in size to
1.5 mm after 48 h incubation. Colonies on blood agar are smooth and shiny, regular,
circular, greyish-white, slightly transparent at the periphery. Beta-haemolysis of bovine
blood is produced. In vitro satellitic growth (NAD requirement) is present.
Isolated from the upper respiratory tract of web-footed birds.
Undetermined. Associated with the mucosa of the respiratory tract of apparently normal White Pekin ducks.

Positive results for catalase, beta-glucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-xylosidase, oxidase, porphyrin, urease, acid
production from: amygdalin, arbutin, fructose, sucrose, maltose, dextrin, gentiobiose, glucose, D(+) mannose, cellobiose, salicin and
trehalose.
Negative results for indole production, acid production from: L(+) arabinose, D(+) arabinose, D(+) xylose, L(+) fucose, D(+) galactose,
lactose, melibiose, raffinose and inulin.
Variable results for alpha-glucosidase, acid production from D(+) mannitol and D(+) sorbitol (biovar 1 is positive for all 3 reactions).
