Haemophilus haemolyticus
Positive results for nitrates reduction, oxidase, alkaline phosphatase, catalase, H2S production, urease, acid production from: D(+)
glucose, maltose, D(-) fructose (weak), and D(+) galactose.

Negative results for arginine dehydrolase, citrate utilization (Simmons), lysine decarboxylase, ornithine decarboxylase,
alpha-glucosidase, gelatinase, ONPG, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from: glycerol, xylitol, L(+) arabinose, dulcitol,
meso-inositol, mannitol, D(-) sorbitol, D(+) mannose, L(+) rhamnose, L(-) sorbose, cellobiose, lactose, D(+) melibiose, sucrose
(saccharose), trehalose, raffinose, inulin, esculin, and salicin.

Variable results for indole production, gas production from D(+) glucose, and acid production from D(+) xylose.

Gram-negative coccobacilli or rods, filamentous forms, non-capsulated.
Colonies on chocolate agar are smooth, convex, translucent, grayish, 0.5-1.5 mm in
diameter after 24 hours. Beta-hemolysis, lost after subcultivation.
Aerobic, facultatively anaerobic, require X-factor and  V-factor for growth. CO
2 is not
required. Growth on MacConkey agar is negative.
