Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods, 0.5-0.7 x 1.25-2.0 μm. Motile.
Colonies on TSA agar after 24 h incubation at 28 ºC are beige in color. Does not
produce a fuorescent pigment on King B agar. Grows at 5-36 ºC, optimum at 24-28
ºC. Grows in the presence of 0-3% (w/v) NaCl and at pH 5-8. Can grow in the
presence of troleandomycin, rifamycin SV, lincomycin, guanidine HCl, niaproof 4,
vancomycin, tetrazolium violet, tetrazolium blue, potassium tellurite, and aztreonam.
Isolated from soil sample taken from Akappage on Izu Oshima, a volcanic island located 120 km southwest of central Tokyo.

Description is based mostly on API 20 NE and Biolog GEN III Microplate results.
Positive results for catalase, nitrate reduction and oxidase.
Can utilize: D-glucose, potassium gluconate, capric acid, adipic acid, malic acid, trisodium citrate, phenylacetic acid,
alpha-D-glucose, glycerol, D- and L-serine, L-alanine, L-arginine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid, L-histidine, L-pyroglutamic acid,
D-gluconic acid, mucic acid, quinic acid, methyl pyruvate, L-lactic acid, citric acid, alpha-keto-glutaric acid, L-malic acid,
bromo-succinic acid, gamma-amino-butryric acid, beta-hydroxy-D L-butyric acid, propionic acid, acetic acid, and formic acid.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase and gelatinase.
No utilization of: D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetyl-glucosamine, D-galactose, D-fucose, inosine, D-arabitol, D-fructose-6-phosphate,
D-aspartic acid, glycyl-L-proline, pectin, D-galacturonic acid, L-galactonic acid lactone, D-glucuronic acid, D-saccharic acid,
p-hydroxy-phenylacetic acid, D-malic acid, Tween 40, alpha-keto-butyric acid, and acetoacetic acid.
