Can utilize: lactic acid, malonate, acetate, capric acid, itaconic acid, citrate L-serine, L-histidine, propionic acid, D-gluconic acid, malic
acid, mucic acid, L-lactic acid, D-glucose, mannitol, fructose, DL-malic acid, succinic acid, D- and L-lactic acid, acetic acid, D- and
L-alanine, L-proline, glutamate and L-arginine.

Negative results for H
2S production, indole production, hydrolysis of: starch, casein, DNA, lecithin, pullulan and aesculin; cystine
arylamidase, ornithine decarboxylase, lysine decarboxylase, valine arylamidase, trypsin, chymotrypsin, alpha- and
beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, alpha-mannosidase,
alpha-fucosidase, urease, acid production from: L-arabinose, sucrose, sorbitol, raffinose, rhamnose, myo-inositol, lactose, trehalose,
cellobiose and maltose.
No utilization of: ethanol, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, maltose, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, L-arabinose, D-mannose, melibiose, sucrose,
sorbitol, raffinose, rhamnose, myo-inositol, D-galactose, lactose, trehalose, cellobiose, maltose, i-erythritol and L-valine.

Contradictory results for alkaline phosphatase activity, gelatin hydrolysis, utilization of D-xylose and glycerol.

Gram-negative straight rods 0.3-0.5 x 1.5-3.0 μm, nonspore-forming, motile by means
of a single polar flagellum.
Colonies are circular and colourless. Growth occurs in media supplemented with
3.5% NaCl, but not in media with salinity higher than 9% at pH 10. Growth occurs at
4-30 ºC, but no growth is observed at 40 ºC or higher. Can grow on MacConkey agar.
Can degrade poly(3-hydroxybutyrate).
Isolated from seawater, Hokkaido, Japan.
