Pseudomonas allii
Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, acid and alkaline phosphatase, esterase C4 (weak), esterase lipase C8 (weak), gelatin
hydrolysis, leucine arylamidase, nitrate reduction, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, oxidase, trypsin (weak) and valine arylamidase
(weak).
Can assimilate (API 20 NE): D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetyld-glucosamine, maltose, potassium
gluconate, capric acid, adipic acid, malic acid and trisodium citrate.
Can utilize (Biolog GEN III - 4 days incubation at 27 ºC): trehalose, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, alpha-D-glucose, D-mannose,
D-fructose, D-galactose, inosine, D-sorbitol, D-mannitol, D-arabitol, myo-inositol, glycerol, D-aspartic acid, D- and L-serine,
glycyl-L-proline, L-alanine, L-arginine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid, L-histidine, L-pyroglutamic acid, D-galacturonic acid,
L-galactonic acid lactone, D-gluconic acid, D-glucuronic acid, glucuronamide, mucic acid, D-saccharic acid, p-hydroxyphenylacetic
acid, L-lactic acid, citric acid, D- and L-malic acid, gamma-aminobutyric acid, DL-beta-hydroxybutyric acid, alpha-ketobutyric acid,
propionic acid
and acetic acid.

Negative results for aesculin hydrolysis, cystine arylamidase, alpha-chymotrypsin, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, alpha- an beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, indole production, lipase C14,
alpha-mannosidase, urease, and glucose fermentation.
No assimilation of phenylacetic acid.
No utilization of sucrose, L-rhamnose, dextrin, maltose, cellobiose, gentiobiose, turanose, stachyose, raffinose, lactose, melibiose,
beta-methyl-D-glucoside, D-salicin, N-acetyl-beta-D-mannosamine, N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, N-acetyl-neuraminic acid, 3-methyl
glucose, L-fucose, L-rhamnose, D-glucose-6-phosphate, gelatin, pectin, D-lactic acid methyl ester, Tween 40 and acetoacetic acid.

Gram-negative rods. Motile by one or two polar flagella. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on standard method agar plates are pale yellow to light cream in colour,
opaque, round with an entire margin, raised, smooth, glistening and usually 1-2 mm
in diameter after growth for 2 days at 27 ºC. No diffusible pigments are produced.
Fluorescent pigment is produced on King’s B medium Growth occurs at 4-30 ºC, at
pH 6-8 and in the presence of 0-6% (w/v) NaCl. Levan is produced from sucrose.
Isolated from soft rot lesions of onion (Allium cepa L.) in Japan.
Causes soft rot of onion. Positive for potato soft rot. Not pathogenic to lettuce. Negative for tobacco hypersensitive reaction.
