Positive results for acid phosphatase (weak), chitinase, CM-cellulose hydrolysis, egg yolk reaction,
naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase (weak), N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase (weak), nitrate reduction, oxidase, starch hydrolysis,
Tween 20 hydrolysis and urease.
Can utilize 2,3-butanediol, dextrin, D-galacturonate, D-glucuronate, glucose, gluconate, citrate, malate, maltose, 4-aminobutyric acid,
saccharic acid, quinic acid, glycogen, Tween 40 and 80, D-fructose, alpha-D-glucose, methylpyruvate, monomethylsuccinate, acetic
acid, cis-aconitic acid, citric acid, D-galacturonic acid, D-gluconic acid, D-glucuronic acid, alpha- and beta-hydroxybutyric acid, itaconic
acid, alpha-ketobutyric acid, alpha-ketoglutaric acid, D,L-lactic acid, malonic acid, propionic acid, quinic acid, D-saccharic acid,
succinic acid, bromosuccinic acid, alaninamide, D- and L-alanine, L-alanyL-glycine, L-asparagine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid,

No utilization of: sucrose, trehalose L-arabinose, mannose, mannitol, sebacic acid, capric acid, D-saccharate, D-galacturonate,
hydroxy-L-proline, D-sorbitol, N-acetylglucosamine, adipate, caprate and phenylacetate.

Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods, 0.6 x 2.3-2.9 μm. Motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on TSA are convex with slightly uneven rims, smooth, opaque and cream
coloured; nonfluorescent, non-denitrifying. Grows at 10-30 ºC (up to 39 ºC in the
original paper - admin note). Aerobic.
Isolated from contaminated groundwater from an industrial plant site located at the Gulf Coast of the USA.
It is able to grow on benzene, toluene or para-cresol as the sole source of carbon and energy.
