Pseudomonas canadensis
Description is based on API 20 NE (bioMerieux), Biolog PM1 and PM2A Microplate results.

Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, gelatinase (negative in Hofmann's study [3]), oxidase and urease.
Can assimilate (API 20 NE): potassium gluconate, capric acid, adipic acid and trisodium citrate.
Can utilize: i-erythritol, sucrose, trehalose, melibiose, L-rhamnose, L-phenylalanine, D-xylitol, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, itaconic acid,
putrescine, succinic acid, L-aspartic acid, L-proline, D-mannose, D-gluconic acid, L-lactic acid, D-mannitol, L-glutamic acid, DL-malic
acid, Tween 20, D-fructose, acetic acid, alpha-D-glucose, L-asparagine, alpha-ketoglutaric acid, L-glutamine, adenosine, citric acid,
fumaric acid, bromosuccinic acid, propionic acid, inosine, L-serine, D- and L-alanine, L-alanyl-glycine, monomethylsuccinate,
methylpyruvate, L-malic acid, pyruvic acid, gaminobutyric acid, caproic acid, D-glucosamine, beta-hydroxybutyric acid, malonic acid,
quinic acid, succinamic acid, L-arginine, hydroxy-L-proline, L- isoleucine, L-leucine, L-pyroglutamic acid, L-valine, D,L-carnitine,
glycerol, L-arabinose, D-saccharic acid, D-galactose, D-galactonic acid g-lactone, mucic acid, D-glucosaminic acid and D-arabitol.

Negative results for aesculin hydrolysis, nitrate reduction, indole production, beta-glucosidase, beta-galactosidase, lysine
decarboxylase and ornithine decarboxylase.
No utilization of: lactose, maltose, D-fructose 6-phosphate, alpha-hydroxyglutaric acid g-lactone, glycyl-L-proline, phenylethylamine,
1,2-propanediol, D-glucose 6-phosphate, sebacic acid, Tween 40, Tween 80 and formic acid.

Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative,  rods, 0.5 x 2.3 µm long. Motile by one or multiple polar flagella.
Non-spore-forming.
After 48 h incubation on King’s B agar, colonies are white-yellowish and circular, 4
mm in diameter, convex with regular margins and produce fluorescent pigments.
Tolerant to different NaCl concentrations up to 4%, and grows at 4 ºC with optimal
growth at 30 ºC and no growth at 40 ºC. Haemolysis is not produced. Aerobic.
Isolated from soil samples collected from a corn-alfalfa rotation plott under long-term (>40 years) mineral fertilization  from Woodslee,
Ontario, Canada.
Exhibited in vitro antagonistic properties against fungal pathogens.
