Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods, 0.6-0.7 x 2.1-2.3 µm. Motile by multiple polar flagella.
Non-spore-forming.
After 48 h incubation at 25 ºC on Lysogeny agar, colonies are 1 mm in diameter, round,
convex, beige, bright and with entire margins. Can grow in LB at 4-30 ºC (optimum at 25
ºC) and in up to 4% NaCl (w/v) (optimum at 1% NaCl). No growth at 37 ºC. A fluorescent
pigment is produced on King B medium. Can grow aerobically and anaerobically only in
the presence of nitrate.
Isolated from a sample of soil temporarily covered by rainwater, in the vicinity of Fildes Bay, King George Island (South Shetlands
Islands, Antarctica).

D-galacturonic acid, methyl pyruvate (weak), gamma-aminobutyric acid, mucic acid, D-fructose (weak), D-arabitol (weak), L-alanine,
L-galactonic acid lactone, D-trehalose, L-pyroglutamic acid (weak), quinic acid, D-galactose (weak), L-malic acid, myo-inositol (weak),
acetic acid, L-arginine, D-gluconic acid, L-lactic acid, inosine (weak), beta-hydroxy-D,L-butyric acid (weak), D-saccharic acid,
bromo-succinic acid (weak), glycerol (weak) and L-aspartic acid (weak).

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, beta-galactosidase, indole production, urease, acid production from glucose
