Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pseudomonadales, Family Pseudomonadaceae,
Genus Pseudomonas, Pseudomonas furukawaii Kimura et al. 2018.
Synonym: Metapseudomonas furukawaii (Kimura et al. 2018) Rudra and Gupta 2023.
Species decription is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative, straight rods, 0.7-0.9 x 1.5-2.0 µm. Motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are circular and white with entire edges. Able to grow at 16-41 ºC, but not at
42 ºC. Grows in 1-4% NaCl media; not in 8% NaCl. Aerobic.
Isolated from a biphenyl-contaminated site in Kitakyushu, Japan.
Can utilize monocyclic and bicyclic aromatic compounds such as biphenyl, 4-methyl biphenyl and benzoate as sole carbon and
energy sources. It is able to degrade polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) such as 4-chloro-, 2,3-, 3,4-, 2,4'-dichloro-, and 2,4,5- and
2,4,4'-trichlorobiphen.
Undetermined.

Positive results for acid phosphatase, catalase, esculin hydrolysis, beta-galactosidase, gelatin liquefaction, lipase (Tween 80), nitrate
reduction and oxidase.

D-mannose, N-acethyl-D-glucosamine, maltose, sodium citrate and phenylacetate.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, indole production, starch hydrolysis, urease and acid production
from glucose.
No utilization of: D- and L-arabitol, erythritol, D-fructose, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, sorbitol, sucrose, trehalose, D- and L-xylose,
3-methyl glucose, acetoacetic acid, D-glucose-6-phosphate, D-lactic acid methyl ester, inosine, L-fucose, L-rhamnose, myo-inositol,
adipic acid, L-arabinose, D-mannitol, potassium gluconate, capric acid and malic acid.
