Pseudomonas fuscovaginae
Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, catalase, Kovacs oxidase tests, lipolysis of Tween 80, peptonization and reduction of litmus
milk without coagulation, gelatin hydrolysis, starch hydrolysis.  Ammonia is produced. Acid is produced from glucose, arabinose,
rhamnose, mannitol mannose and trehalose.
Can utilize D-arabitol, L-arabinose, acetate, D-fructose, glycerol, lactate, L-leucine, mannitol, beta-alanine, citrate, malonate,
succinate, urate, trehalose, L-valine and L-lysine.

Negative results for denitrification, nitrate reduction, methyl red test, Voges-Proskauer test, esculin hydrolysis, arbutin hydrolysys,
cytochrome oxidase, phenylalanine deaminase, urease, H
2S production, indole production, beta-glucosidase and tyrosinase. Levan
is not produced from sucrose.
Acid is not produced from adonitol, dextrin, dulcitol, erythritol, inositol, lactose, maltose, inulin, raffinose, salicin, sorbitol, sucrose,
xylose or alpha-methylglucoside.
No utilization of itaconate, tartrate, hippurate, 2-ketogluconate, inositol, sorbitol, adonitol and polygalacturonic acid.

Pseudomonas fuscovaginae is a later heterotypic synonym of Pseudomonas asplenii.
Gram-negative, nonspore-forming, rod-shaped cells with round ends, 0.5-0.8 x 2.0-
3.5 μm. The cells occur singly or in pairs and are motile by means of one to four polar
flagella.
White to light brown, smooth, glistening, raised, translucent, circular, butyrous
colonies 3 to 5 mm in diameter is produced after 4 to 5 days at 28 ºC on nutrient agar.
Produce a green fluorescent, diffusible pigment on King's medium B. No slime is
produced on nutrient agar containing 5% sucrose. The optimal growth temperature is
approximately 28 ºC. No growth occurs at 37 ºC. Aerobic.
No growth occurs in nutrient broth supplemented with 5% NaCl.
Isolated from diseased leaf sheaths of Oryza sativa in Japan.
Pathogenic for the Gramineae. Is the causative agent of sheath brown rot of rice.
Pathogenicity was demonstrated on
Oryza sativa, Hordeum vulgare, Triticum aestivum, Avena sativa, Zea mays, Lolium perenne,
Bromus marginatus, Phleum pratense
and Phalaris arundinacea.
Produce a hypersensitivity reaction in tobacco plants.
