Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pseudomonadales, Family Pseudomonadaceae,
Genus Paucimonas, Paucimonas lemoignei (Delafield et al. 1965) Jendrossek 2001, type species of the genus.
Synonym: Pseudomonas lemoignei Delafield et al. 1965.
Gram-negative rods, 0.75 x 1.6-2.6 µm. Motile by a single polar flagellum. Accumulate
poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate as intracellular carbon reserve. Endospores not produced.
Colonies are small and adherent to agar. On complex media or media with tyrosine
colonies may become brown to black. Fluorescent pigment is not produced. Strictly
aerobic, growth temperature 30 ºC. No growth observed at 41 ºC. Does not grow well
on complex media and the addition of yeast extract to mineral media containing
a suitable carbon source does not improve the growth.
Isolated from soil by enrichment in mineral medium with poly-β-hydroxybutyrate as sole carbon source.

Positive results for catalase and oxidase.
Can utilize acetate, pyruvate, succinate, butyrate, 3-hydroxybutyrate, valerate and 3-hydroxyvalerate.
Nitrates not reduced. Hydrolysis of starch and gelatin are negative.
No utilization of: glucose, fructose, mannose, galactose, D- and L-arabinose, D-xylose, D-ribose, maltose, cellobiose, lactose,
mannose, galactose, sucrose, methanol, ethyl alcohol, propanol, ethyleneglycol, propyleneglycol, 2, 3-butylene-glycol, glycerol,

kynurenine, kynurenate, nicotinate, trigonelline, phenol, betaine, sarcosine, creatine, ethanolamine, benzylamine, putrescine,
spermine, histamine, tryptamine, butylamine, alpha-amylamine, acids: formic, caproic, caprylic, capric, pelargonic, malonic, maleic,
