Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pseudomonadales, Family Pseudomonadaceae,
Genus Pseudomonas,
Pseudomonas nitroreducens  Iizuka and Komagata 1964.
Synonyms:
Pseudomonas multiresinivorans  Mohn et al. 1999, Pseudomonas nitritireducens Wang et al. 2015.
Gram-negative rods, 0.4 to 0.6 by 1.4 to 1.8 μm, occurring singly or in pairs. Motile by
polar flagella. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on nutrient agar are circular, smooth or slightly rough, entire, raised,
glistening, pale yellowish brown, opalescent, butyrous. On nutrient agar slant:
moderate growth, filiform, glistening, pale brownish yellow. Fluorescence may be
present in early stages of isolation. Optimum temperature 25-30 ºC. No growth at 4 ºC
or 37 ºC. Aerobic. Able to grow in the presence of 3-5% NaCl. Growth media: Nutrient
Agar / Broth, Glutamate Agar / Broth, MacConkey agar.
P. nitroreducens was isolated from an oil brine in Japan. P. nitritireducens was solated from a wheat soil subjected to herbicides for
several years.
P. multiresinivorans was isolated from a laboratory sequencing batch reactor in Canada.
Undetermined.

Positive results for nitrate reduction to nitrite and gas, cytochrome oxidase, catalase, hydrolysis of hypoxanthine, acid production from:
glucose, fructose and glycerol.
Can utilize as sole carbon source: L-malate, phenylacetate,  gluconate,  laucine (
P. nitritireducens strain), adipate, citrate, glycerol,
L-histidine, hydroxy-L-proline, N-acetylgalactosamine, trans-aconitate, mesaconate, fumarate, glutarate, pyruvate and
4-hydroxybenzoate.
Can utilize kerosene and crude oil as the sole source of carbon and energy.

Negative results for Voges-Proskauer reaction, ornithine decarboxylase, indole production from tryptophan, hydrolysis of gelatin,
hydrolysis of aesculin, hydrolysis of starch, beta-galactosidase, lecithinase, acid production from: adonitol,
dulcitol, mannitol, ribose, xylose, galactose and arabinose.
No utilization of: L-arabiose, mannitol, sorbitol, xylose, malonate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, ethanol, salicylate, gentisate, anthranilate,
p-amino-benzoate, o-aminobenzoate, benzylformate, D-galactose, acetate, hippurate and propionate.

Variable results for H
2S production, Tween 80 hydrolysis, urease, utilization of: L-arabinose, L-histidine, trehalose, L-serine, mucate
and 2-butanol.
