Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pseudomonadales, Family Pseudomonadaceae,
Genus Pseudomonas, Pseudomonas orientalis Dabboussi et al. 2002.
Gram-negative rods, motile by means of a single polar flagellum. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on nutrient agar are circular, smooth and non-pigmented. Fluorescent
pigment is produced on King B agar. Haemolysis on blood agar. Growth occurs at 4
ºC, optimum temperature 30 ºC (maximum 35 ºC), at ph 5-8, and in 0-6% NaCl (w/v)
media. Grows on media: King B agar, Trypticase Soy Broth Agar, Nutrient Agar.
Isolated from spring water in Lebanon.

Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, catalase, esterase-lipase, oxidase, and urease.
Can assimilate: L-arabinose, L-arabitol, xylitol, inositol, D-sorbitol, N-acetylglucosamine, D-xylose, sucrose, adonitol,
DL-alpha-amino-N-butyrate and trigonelline.
Levan is produced from sucrose.
Negative results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, denitrification.
No utilization of: adipic acid, D-adonitol, maltose, arbutin, D-lyxose, 5-ketogluconate, i-erythritol, benzoate, L-tryptophan, D-tartrate and
meso-tartrate.
Variable results for lecithinase, gelatinase, nitrate reduction to nitrite and assimilation of alpha-L-rhamnose.
