Oxidative metabolism and no fermentation of sugars in peptone media.

Positive results for catalase (weak) and oxidase.
Can assimilate D-ribose (weak), propionate (weak), glucose, L-arabinose, mannitol, glycerol, galactose, fructose, mannose, sucrose,
turanose, gluconate, caprate, malate, citrate, itaconate, malonate, acetate, lactate, valerate, 3-hydroxybenzoate, 4-hydroxybutyrate,
L-alanine, L-serine and L-proline.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, aesculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, beta-galactosidase, indole production, nitrate
reduction, urease and acid production  from glucose.
No assimilation of L-leucine, N-acetylglucosamine, maltose, L-rhamnose, inositol, salicin, melibiose, L-fucose, sorbitol, glycogen,
erythritol, D- and L-xylose, adonitol, methyl beta-D-xyloside, methyl beta-D-glucoside, methyl beta-D-mannoside, dulcitol, amygdalin,
arbutin, cellobiose, lactose, trehalose, melezitose, raffinose, starch, inulin, xylitol, gentiobiose, caprate, adipate, phenylacetate,
L-histidine, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, suberate and 3-hydroxybenzoate.

Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods, 0.4-0.5 x 1.2-1.3 µm. Motile by a single polar flagellum.
Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on nutrient agar are circular convex, yellow, translucent and usually 0.5-2.5
mm in diameter within 2 days growth at 25 ºC. Grows at 4 ºC but not at 41 ºC and at
pH  5-9. A diffusible fluorescent pigment is produced on King B medium. Strictly
aerobic.
Isolated from grasses grown in moderate to strongly acidic soils (pH 5.0–5.5) from the Andean Churomaquera community in the
province of El Collao (Puno, Peru) at 3860 m, used as bedding for the exposure of potatoes to the frost.
