Pseudomonas seleniipraecipitans
Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, catalase, citrate utilization, esculin hydrolysis, selenite reduction, selenate reduction and
nitrate reduction to nitrite.
Can utilize acetic acid, D- and L-alanine, L-arabinose, itaconate, D,L-lactic acid, mannitol, capric acid, gluconate, glucose, malic acid,
and mannose.

Negative results for acetoin production, beta-galactosidase, gelatinase, H
2S production, indole production, lysine decarboxylase,
ornithine decarboxylase, oxidase, urease, fermentation / oxidation of amygdalin, arabinose, glucose, inositol, mannitol, melibiose
sorbitol, rhamnose, and saccharose.
No utilization of erythritol, L-histidine, m-inositol, L-leucine, malonic acid, D-sorbitol, sucrose, trehalose, N-acetyl-glucosamine adipic
acid, and phenylacetic acid.

Contradictory results for maltose.

Synonym:
Pseudomonas seleniipraecipitatus Hunter and Manter 2011.
Gram-negative rods, 0.7 x 2 µm. Motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies grown on King’s B agar at 28 ºC for 4 days are up to 3 mm in diameter,
circular or slightly undulate, entire, and convex with a slight earthy odor. No
fluorescent pigment is produced in King’s B medium but a water insoluble yellow
pigment with a major absorbance peak at 449 nm is produced. In NWRI (National
Water Research Institute media) broth optimal growth was observed at 25-30 ºC and
no growth was observed at 37 ºC (24 h incubation). Grow in 2% NaCl media, but not
in 4% NaCl (24 h incubation). Aerobic.
Isolated from soil.
Resistant to the toxic effects of selenate and selenite. Selenate, at 64 mM, had no measurable influence on the growth of the strain
and the strain’s minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for selenite was found to exceed 150 mM.
