hansenii Holdeman & Moore 1974. Moved to Ruminococcus hansenii (Holdeman and Moore 1974) Ezaki et al. 1994, then to Blautia
hansenii (Holdeman and Moore 1974) Liu et al. 2008.
Gram-positive, 1.6 to 2.3 μm cocci, with rounded or slightly tapered ends, grouped in
pairs or chains of pairs.
Non-hemolytic, 0.5 to 2 mm in diameter, lenticular, and translucent or white
with translucent edges colonies (up to 5 days incubation). Grow at 37 to 45 ºC (no
growth below 25 ºC), strictly anaerobic.
Growth media: Blood agar, BHI agar, Chopped meat medium with 1% glucose,
PYG-MEDIUM (modified).
Isolated from human faeces.
