Ungroupable by Lancefield serological testing.
Gram-positive, nonmotile cocci, grouped in long chains.
Regular, under 0.5 mm in diameter, non-pigmented, translucent colonies. On blood
agar colonies are surrounded by zones of alpha-hemolysis. Growth at 37 ºC. Aerobic,
facultatively anaerobic. Growth is enhanced by incubation in a 5% CO2-supplemented
atmosphere. Grow on: Trypticase soy agar with 5% sheep blood, Brain heart infusion
agar or broth. No growth in the presence of 6.5% NaCl, on bile–esculin agar or on
Slanetz–Bartley agar.
Isolated from the genital tract of swine (vagina).

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, alanine phenylalanine, hippurate hydrolysis, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, beta-
galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, leucine arylamidase (weak), proline arylamidase, Voges–Proskauer reaction, acid production
from: cellobiose, D-fructose, galactose, D-glucose, N-acetylglucosamine, lactose, maltose, D-mannose, mannitol, salicin, sucrose,
sorbitol and trehalose.
Negative results for alpha-galactosidase, arginine dihydrolase, catalase, esculin hydrolysis, glycyltryptophan arylamidase, beta-
mannosidase, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, urease, acid production from: D- or L-arabitol, amygdalin, D- or L-arabinose, dulcitol,
erythritol, D- or L- fucose, gluconate, glycerol, glycogen, beta-gentiobiose, inositol, inulin, 2- or 5-ketogluconate, D-lyxose, methyl
alpha-D-mannoside, methyl alpha-D-glucoside, melibiose, melezitose, D-raffinose, rhamnose, L-sorbose, starch, D-tagatose, D-
turanose, pullulan, xylitol, D- or L-xylose and methyl beta-xyloside.
Variable results for acid production from beta-glucosidase, methyl beta-glucopyranoside and ribose.
