Non-groupable with Lancefield antisera.
Gram-positive cocci, grouped in short chains. Nonmotile.
Colonies on sheep blood agar are small, 1 mm in diameter, opaque and produce
alpha-hemolysis. Optimum growth at 37 ºC. Aerobic, facultatively anaerobic. Growth is
enhanced by incubation in a 5% C02 -supplemented atmosphere. No growth at 42 ºC.
Media: Trypticase soy agar with 5% sheep blood, Brain heart infusion agar or broth.
Broth culture produces sediment with clear supernatant. No growth in bile-esculin
medium. Growth occurs in the presence of 6.5% NaCl after 2 days incubation.
Isolated from pigs (vaginal fluids and intestine).
Unknown. Strains isolated from diseased or dead pigs, but pathogenicity was no proved.

cellobiose, fructose, galactose, beta-gentiobiose, methyl beta-D-glucopyranoside, glucose, N-acetylglucosamine, inulin, lactose,
maltose, mannose, mannitol, ribose, salicin, starch, sucrose and trehalose.
Negative results for N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, beta-mannosidase, urease, acid production from:
adonitol, D-arabinose, D- or L-arabitol, cyclodextrin, dulcitol, erythritol, D- or L-fucose, glycerol, glycogen, gluconate, 2- or 5-
ketogluconate, inositol, D-lyxose, methyl alpha-D-mannoside, methyl beta-xyloside, rhamnose, L-sorbose, xylitol and L-xylose.
Variable results for alpha- or beta-galactosidase, alkaline phosphatase, hippurate hydrolysis, acid production from: amygdalin,
methyl alpha-D-glucoside, melibiose, melezitose, raffinose, sorbitol, D-turanose, tagatose and D-xylose.
