Gram-negative, 0.8 x 1.0-1.2 µm, motile by means of a polar flagellum in liquid medium.
Colonies on TSA and BHI with 1.5% NaCl or marine agar 2216E are beige, with
raised margins, 1 mm in diameter. Colonies are green on TCBS agar and grow
slowly, in 3 days. Can grow in nutrient broth with: 2% to 6% NaCl (2.5-3.5% NaCl
optimum). No growth in 0% or over 6% NaCl. Growth temperature 20-30 ºC. No
growth occurs at 4 or 35 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic. Bioluminescence is not produced.
Isolated from the gut of healthy larvae of the turbot (Scophtalmus maximus), at the Aquaculture Research Station of Austevoll, Norway.
Resistant to the vibriostatic agent O/129, streptomycin, trimethoprim and fusidic acid.

Positive results for oxidase, lipase, ONPG test, catalase, esterase lipase, esterase,
arginine dihydrolase, indole, beta-galactosidase, alkaline phosphatase, acid
phosphatase and acid production from D-glucose (without gas).
Negative results for Voges-Proskauer, nitrate reduction, alpha-galactosidase, urease, gelatinase, H2S, methyl red, acid production
from: sucrose, D-sorbitol, D-mannitol, L-arabinose, myo-inositol, L-rhamnose, melibiose and amygdalin.
