Vibrio rumoiensis Yumoto, Iwata, Sawabe, Ueno, Ichise, Matsuyama, Okuyama and Kawasaki 1999.
Gram-negative, 0.5–0.9 / 0.7–2.1 µm, rods. Non-sporeforming. No flagella. Numerous
blebs occur on the cell surface.
Can grow in nutrient broth with: 3, 4, 6 & 10% NaCl. No growt in 0% NaCl. Growth
temperature 2-35 ºC, no growth at 40 ºC. Non-pigmented colonies.
Isolated from a drainage pool at a fish processing plant where hydrogen peroxide was used as a bleaching agent.
Susceptible to vibriostatic compound O/129 (10 and 150 µg).
Unknown.

Activity. Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Jan. 1999, p. 67-72.
Produces a high level of catalase. Positive results for oxidase, lipase, methyl red,
reduction of NO3 to NO2, acid production from: D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-fructose,
D-maltose, D-mannose, sucrose, D-xylose and D-mannitol, utilization of citrate, L-
arabinose, D-fructose, D-glucose, glycerol, lactoseand D-gluconate.
Negative results for esculin hydrolysis, Voges-Proskauer test (1% NaCl), indole (Heart Infusion Broth, 1% NaCl) , H2S production,
casein hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, alginic acid hydrolysis, lysine (1% NaCl), acid production from: D-galactose, myo-inositol,
L-rhamnose, utilization of melibiose, raffinose and D-sorbitol.
Variable results for arginine dihydrolase (1% NaCl) .
