Gram-negative, motile rods.
Grow in nutrient broth with 0 and 1% NaCl. No growth in 6% NaCl. No brown diffusible
pigment is produced on TSA. Beta-hemolysis on 5% sheep blod agar is variable.
Growth occurs at 36 ºC.
Isolated from human clinical specimens (abscesses, wounds, skin, pleural fluid, and blood). No isolates from human stools were
reported. Resistant to vibriostatic agent O/129.
Undetermined. May be an opportunistic pathogen.

Positive results for catalase, oxidase, nitrates reduction, methyl red, DN-ase, amylase,
protease, lipase (corn oil), lysine decarboxylase, arginine dihydrolase, acid production
from: D-glucose (without gas), D-galactose, maltose, D-mannose and trehalose.
Negative results for esculin hydrolysis, indole production, urease, malonate utilization, growth in KCN, acid production from: adonitol,
L-arabinose, D-arabitol, cellobiose, dulcitol, erythritol, myo-inositol, lactose, melibiose, D-mannitol, alpha-methyl-D-glucoside,
raffinose, L-rhamnose, D-sorbitol, sucrose and D-xylose.
Variable results for ONPG, citrate utilization (Simmons), H2S on triple sugar iron, Voges-Proskauer test, acetate utilization, gelatin
hydrolysis, acid production from: glycerol and salicin.
